The Gallery was opended by Cllr Robbins and various speeches were made. Very little reference was made to the Friends of the William Morris Gallery who have raised over £1m for the Gallery and worked hard to ensure its future. Initially they weren't even invited to the event but managed to gate crash it! Most of the other guests were representatives of the council and the organisations that have funded it including the Heritage Lottery Fund.
