After some of our members complained about the muddy conditions of the path by the Lloyd Park Centre the council is arranging for the Pay Back Team to lay wood chips to make the path more accessible. |

The 600 new trees planted on the Fields at the Community Planting Day last November need a hand to settle in, so Green Gym is coming to Lloyd Park. If you'd like to help heel-in, mulch & prune the new trees, come along on any (or all) of these days: Green Gym helps you get healthy and improve your local environment at the same time. It's being run around the borough by the charity BTCV, on behalf of Waltham Forest Council. You don't need any previous experience or any tools, just turn up on the day. 12 January Lecture, David Mabb’s Appropriations of William Morris 1999-2011
David Mabb Reader in Art, Goldsmiths, University of London Thursday, 12 January 2012 6.00pm, Kenneth Clark Lecture Theatre The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 0RN On the Passage of a Few Patterns through a Rather Brief Moment in Time: David Mabb’s Appropriations of William Morris 1999-2011 William Morris thought that interior design had a fundamental role to play in the transformation of everyday life. This essentially political motivation - a commitment to the radical potential of design - is behind much of his work as a designer and craftsman and the setting up of Morris & Co. Morris' designs are highly schematized representations of nature, where it is always summer and never winter; the plants are always in leaf, often flowering, with their fruits available in abundance, ripe for picking, and with no human labor in sight. Mabb's paintings, photographs, textiles and videos, work with and against Morris' designs by contrasting them with the work of Malevich, the Russian Constructivists, modernist architecture, photographs of industry and recently images of slogans. These combinations produce unstable picture spaces that are never fixed, where a Morris pattern and the other image never merge or separate. This lecture has been organised to accompany the exhibition William Morris: Story, Memory, Myth which is open until 29 January 2012 at Two Temple Place . The exhibition draws upon the remarkable collections of the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, which is closed for major refurbishment until July 2012. Organised in collaboration with The Courtauld Institute of Art, this exhibition is the first in the annual series of exhibitions by The Bulldog Trust which are intended to draw on and increase the visibility of collections across the country, and to provide opportunities for young and emerging curators. |
During the Christmas and New Year periods, the opening and closing times of
Lloyd and Aveling Park will change. The following information are extracts from the Waltham Forest Council Website: 'Opening hours of parks, open spaces, playing fields and children's playgrounds Except where otherwise stated, we aim to open locked sites by 9am each day. Some sports areas are only opened for pre-booked activities. The expected closing times for the year will be as follows:
Closing will commence at the times listed above, but may conclude up to 2 hours later. Toilets are only open when staff are present on site for security reasons. Parks and playgrounds that are normally locked at night will be left open from Christmas Eve until the first normal working day after New Year. Premier parks The above closing times apply to Langthorne Park and Lloyd and Aveling Park. Langthorne Park and Lloyd and Aveling Park will close at the times shown on the opening hours of parks, open spaces, playing fields and children’s playgrounds (see below): Premier parks will be attended from 8.30 a.m. each day (9 a.m. on Sundays), until the following times in the weeks commencing: December 2011

Over 1,300 people came to plant trees in Aveling Fields. A really fun day was had by all as families dug holes to plant "their" tree. A Queens Diamond Jubilee oak was also planted and this will remind generations ahead of how we helpd to improve the ecology of our park. |
Two Temple Place is London’s first venue to specifically showcase publicly-owned
art from UK regional collections. The building is one of London's hidden
architectural gems, an extraordinary late Victorian mansion built by William
Waldorf Astor on Embankment.
The inaugural show is in collaboration with the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. Work has started on demolishing the theatre. Groundworks have started on the various facilities that will be provided so it is now possible to see exactly where each building will go. Go to PICS to see the latest photos of the works. |
The Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA) has recently been
selected as preferred developer by Waltham Forest Council, and formed a
partnership with Hill Residential, to develop the Arcade Site. We, M&N
Communications, have been appointed by ISHA to carry out a consultation with
local stakeholders and residents before a planning application is submitted.
Attached is a flyer that has been
delivered to local residents promoting a public exhibition to view the proposals
for the Arcade site. The exhibition is taking place on Friday 15th
July from 2-6pm and on Saturday 16th July from

As from 23th June 2011the Night Path will be closed at dusk and open at 7.30am Monday to Saturday and 9.00am on Sunday. This action is being taken to increase the security of the park while the work is progressing. FOLP will be campaigning to have the path open longer during the winter to enable carers, collecting their children from the LPC, to be able to take the shorter way home. |

Jerram Falkus Construction Ltd have been awarded the restoration
works contract. They are a local company based in Shoreditch and
have previously worked in the borough on Coronation Gardens and
Langthorne Park. Work will start on Monday 20 June, when Jerram Falkus will take possession of the whole of the Park. The entire park will be closed for three days. On the 23 June there be public access to part of Aveling Fields via the Brettenham Road and Winns Avenue entrances only. This will include access to the natural play area and open area for ball games. We plan to keep public access to this area during the majority of the work, but this will be subject to the work taking place at the time. There will be north-south access from Brettenham Road to Winns Avenue during the day in line with park opening hours. There will also be daytime access across the park from Winns Avenue to Bedford Road via Clay Path. From late June this will be gated at both ends and closed between dusk and 7.30 am (9 am on Sundays) in line with normal park opening times. Access will remain for the users of the two bowls clubs and the Lloyd Park Centre. Alternative Parks and facilities in the area: Greenleaf Road play area for under 7's - 420m from Forest Road/Winns Terrace junction. Chestnut Fields (behind Waltham Forest Town Hall on Forest Road) - 600m from Forest Road entrance. Kitchener Road Park - brand new play area, large grass area, circular path good for walking jogging - 1,100m from Aveling Park Road entrance. Cheney Row Open Space - Billet Road - 1,400m from Winns Avenue Entrance. Higham Hill Recreation Ground - Hecham Close and Norfolk Road, E17 - Newly refurbished play equipment for under 7’s and under 12’s, outdoor gym equipment, circular path for jogging/walking, tennis courts, basketball posts, multi-use games area, large open grass area, pavilion for hire - 1,500m from Winns Avenue entrance." |
Due to the building works our William Morris Folk Fete will now take place in Stoneydown Park, off Pretoria Avenue on Sunday 26th June from 2pm -6pm. |
Jerram Falkus has been appointed as the building contractor. We are awaiting a council announcement about the design changes that have had to be made to keep the costs in budget. We are also expecting to hear soon how much of the park will have to be closed during the 12 months the work will take to complete. Work on the William Morris Gallery extension is expected to start in July. |
We are waiting to hear which contractor the council has appointed to carry out the building work. Once this announcement is made we will expect many announcements about how the work will be carried out and which parts of the park will be closed to visitors. |
The April Project Board meeting has been delayed until 11th May. Further details about the contractors expected then. |
